Applying for a particulate matter sticker

Low-emission vehicles can receive a so-called fine dust sticker.

These can be obtained from all registration authorities, technical inspection organizations and all workshops that are authorized to carry out exhaust emission tests.

Exceptions
The website of the Senator for the Environment, Construction, Transport and Europe provides information on exceptions to the sticker requirement.

The stickers in the colors red, yellow and green each correspond to a pollutant group:

• Green sticker = pollutant group 4:
  Vehicles with the lowest particle or pollutant emissions, such as vehicles with the latest diesel technology and all vehicles with gasoline engines that have a regulated catalytic converter. In addition, vehicles that are not powered by an internal combustion engine (e.g. electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles).
• Yellow sticker = pollutant group 3:
  Diesel cars with emission code numbers (ESN) 30, 31, 36, 37, 42, 44 to 52, 72 and diesel commercial vehicles with ESN 34, 44, 54, 70, 71
• red sticker = pollutant group 2:
  Diesel passenger cars with emission key numbers (ESN) 25 to 29, 35, 41, 71 and diesel commercial vehicles with ESN 20, 21, 22, 33, 43, 53, 60, 61
• No sticker = pollutant group 1:
  Vehicles with a lower classification cannot be issued with a sticker at all.

Requirements

The emission class codes of the vehicles according to No. 1 of the old vehicle registration certificate or No. 14.1 of the new registration certificate Part I (ZBI) are decisive for the issue of the stickers.

If the vehicle has been retrofitted with a particulate reduction system, an amendment to the ZBI is required.
