Animals can be carriers of animal disease pathogens and spread them. As an animal owner, you therefore have a special duty to minimise the risk of spreading disease if you wish to hold an event involving livestock. It is therefore necessary to notify the authorities of such an event.

Livestock includes all farm animals kept for agricultural purposes:

• Horses, donkeys, mules, zebras and zebroids
• Cattle, including bison, wisents and water buffalo
• Sheep and goats
• Pigs
• Hares, rabbits
• Ducks, pheasants, geese, chickens, ratites, guinea fowl, partridges, pigeons, turkeys and quails
• Game
• Camelids, for example camels, alpacas, llamas or dromedaries

You must notify the competent authority in writing or electronically at least 4 weeks in advance if you wish to hold one of the following events:

• Cattle show
• Cattle market
• Cattle show
• Competition with livestock
• Any event of a similar nature

The competent authority may restrict or prohibit the event if this is necessary for reasons of animal disease control. The authority will inform you of any restrictions or prohibitions.

Requirements

• You are planning one of the following events:
  
  • Cattle exhibition
  • Cattle market
  • Cattle show
  • Competition with livestock
  • Similar event
• The animals are farm animals belonging to the livestock category.
• The venue is fenced in such a way that the animals can only enter and leave the premises through monitored entrances and exits.
• Paths and roads, as well as the areas for loading and unloading livestock transport vehicles, are paved, easy to clean and can be disinfected.
• A special area with an impermeable floor and pressurised water is available for cleaning and disinfecting vehicles.
• The floor of the area slopes towards a drain connected to the sewerage system or other waste water disposal facility.
• Rooms for the temporary accommodation of livestock have a liquid-impermeable floor and smooth walls that are easy to clean and disinfect.
• Accommodation rooms for livestock are adequately lit.
• Where necessary, the rooms are divided into pens in which the livestock can be tethered.
• A special area must be available for the isolation of animals that are sick or suspected of being sick.
• Persons involved in the drive shall have facilities for cleaning and disinfecting their hands and footwear.
• Suitable facilities shall be available for storing animal by-products.
